The driving theory test is a multiple choice test which is designed to show your knowledge and understanding of the Highway Code. You are allowed 57 minutes to answer 50 questions. The minimum pass mark is 43 correct answers.

The Highway Code includes all the general rules of the road and offers techniques and advice for drivers. Procedures for junctions, crossings are explained together with crossings and road signs. Driving in adverse weather conditions and using motorways are also included. It is an essential book to have not only when learning to drive but also beyond.

CD’s and phone apps are available for study and usually offer explanations for every revision answer.

The second part of the Driving Theory Test involves a Hazard Perception Test. This is a test which asks you to identify potential developing hazards at the earliest opportunity. It shows how you have learnt the techniques of scanning to identify potential hazards, are able to use appropriate speed and plan in advance. You will see 14 video clips that show every day road situations. The minimum mark for this test is 44 out of 75. The quicker you are able to respond to each developing hazard the higher your score will be. The maximum score on each hazard is 5.
